Every year since we got married at the Boston Public Library, we’ve gone back to take a “romantic” anniversary pic in my beloved blue wedding shoes. This time, with a squirmy infant and firecracker toddler in tow, we managed to get our butts there but forgot the most critical element for any photo opp with children: the snack bribes. Alas, with not even a bunny graham cracker on hand, out of fifty photos we did score one with everyone looking at the camera! It’s no surprise mom and dad have a bushel more grey hairs and wrinkles (on both eyes and clothes) this year, but our smiles are as big as ever.
Nick and I aren’t big on gifts, but I always look forward to the small or meaningful item he comes up with per the traditional anniversary gift themes (something made of paper for year 1, cotton for year 2, leather for year 3, and so on). For our 6th wedding anniversary (and 17th year together!!), the theme is iron and I found myself the owner of a new cast iron griddle so we can actually enjoy more than 1 pancake at a time. Nick has an 80+ year old cast iron pan that he inherited from his grandmother and cooks amazing food in, so I hope this griddle is something we’ll have in our family for a while and that our kids will enjoy cooking with one day!
Side note, if you’re looking for a special pair of “something blue” shoes, I came across these Camellia heels (also at Saks, BHLDN) in the dreamiest shade of pale blue. I have the same shoes in another color (see on me) and they are lovely little works of art in person and fairly comfortable thanks to the thicker heel.
Here’s a walk down memory lane from over the years!
