Now that the cold weather is upon us, one question I’m getting often is how to properly tie a sash belt on a coat. Previously I’ve shared my signature bow tie method, bit if you’re looking for something a little more subtle and sleek, I wanted to shared this method that a Burberry sales associate showed me a while back! I love that this method also keeps the belt securely tied without the knot slipping out. Scroll down to watch the video tutorial and see the pinnable step by step below!
These Kurt Geiger mules bring a festive sparkle to any outfit, but I have to admit that they are not very comfortable for me under the jeweled band, which fits loose across my foot even though the length of the shoe fits just right. I’m going to try them with some foam tape underneath as padding to see if that helps. I found a few alternative mules and coats semi-similar to the ones I have on!
Step One
Start with one side of the tie much longer than the other and hold it in your dominant hand.
Step 2
Wrap it around your hand once and pull the tail end through. Essentially, you’re tying a loose knot with this one side of the belt.
Step 3
Take the other tail end of the belt with your other hand, and thread the tail through the knot you created in step 2.
Step 4
Pull both tail ends to tighten the knot as needed and make any final adjustments. For instance, I prefer to have my knot slightly to the side rather than right in the middle!

I felt like shouting “hallelujah” (and I’m not even Christian lol) when I saw you mention foam tape. I have been hoping for months to figure out a way to make some gorgeous heels fit snugly enough wear, and I’ve never heard of it before. (Sometimes size 5 is just a little too big.) Could you share the link for the kind you use and/or tell us what thickness you use (etc.)? Thanks so much!!
Hi Rose! I have two different types I use: pre-cut or a full roll you can trim to whatever size needed. I also have a couple of different thicknesses, but it really just depends on how much additional padding you need. The two different types I have are both linked in this post – I also use them to readjust hat sizes as needed!
Try moleskin under the strap of the mules. It might not be thick enough, but it might work and it will be super comfy against your instep. BTW, I tried your bra sweater tuck method the other day and it worked so well.
