J.Crew Lodge Coat + Petite-friendly Sweaters

jcrew petite lodge wool camel coat review

The J.Crew Lady Day coat has been a staple in my coat collection for over a decade now, and has remained a reader favorite here throughout all these years! While I still love the feminine, tailored cut of the Lady Day, I wanted to review their Lodge wool coat, which is another popular option that comes in petite sizing.

For Cyber Week, J.Crew is having 40% off select full-price items with code SHOPEARLY, and I’ll be keeping an eye out for any additional sales this Friday through Monday! My favorite pick for WFH is their Juliette cardigan jacket (still fully stocked in grey) which you can see on me in this post. Note that the Juliette has an oversized fit, so if you’re able to, consider sizing down.

Cable Knit Half-Zip Sweater

Sizes xxs – 3XL. In 6 colors.

So cozy! This half-zip sweater in xxs has a more casual fit that is slouchy but not too oversized on me. It’s soft and cozy against the skin (made with J.Crew’s “supersoft yarn“) with a medium weight and textured cable design on the front. The half zipped neckline can be layered over a white button down or a festive plaid shirt a touch of holiday spirit!

Fair Isle Crewneck Sweater

Sizes xxs – 3XL

This crewneck sweater is a shrunken fit style, so compared to their other sweaters in regular sizing, the shorter length is a nice regular fit on someone petite. I love that this classic Fair Isle print is in a soft neutral color palette making it easy to stylem whether you want to pair it with jeans or skirt. See above for how I paired it below with a festive slip skirt using one of my sweater tucking tips. Note that this slip skirt in size xxs has an elastic waistband that still fit a little loose on me, so I’d say it runs a little big.

Wool Lodge Coat

Starting in 00 petite & regular. Also available in red & black

Rather than a tailored cut that nips in narrowly at the waist like the Lady Day coat, the Lodge coat is more straight cut with a slight A-line silhouette and hits thigh length on me. The style of the Lodge coat may better suit those who dress more casually, wear looser layers, and want to be more comfortable around the waist area.

After reading all the sizing reviews I sized up to a 0 petite, which turned out to be a good fit on me (5 ft tall) with room to layer a thick sweater underneath. The Lodge coat is thick and warm, made of their signature Italian stadium-cloth wool (has a smooth, non itchy finish) and lined with an insulated quilted lining. It has an interior chest pocket and a very sturdy metal zipper down the front. One detail I really love is the thick ribbed cuff on the sleeves, which not only fit comfortably, but also keep the cold wind and elements out of your sleeves!

Love all your selections and styling tips. I’m 4’10” and weigh 90lbs, so petite XXS or 00P are my only choices. Some of us, though, live in climates where wearing a coat or heavy sweater is a rarity. I have a black cashmere full length coat that I splurged on 25 years ago. I’ve probably worn it 25 times and it still looks stylish and lovely. Please keep those of us in warmer climes in mind in your posts.
