Classic Fall workwear with boots

petite work outfit with boots uniqlo camel coat Oversized coat: Uniqlo coat xxs, sleeves folded under (3 colors). Read my fit review.
Pants: Ann Taylor 00 petite, on sale. A flattering classic!
Sweater: Nordstrom BP, old. Similar here or this well priced cashmere sweater.
Booties: The Drop 5. Similar booties here and here with good reviews.
Sunglasses: YSL. I also have these look for less sunnies and they’re awesome for the $15 price!

Whenever I show ankle pants or cropped jeans in the cooler seasons, there’s inevitably a comment or two about how my ankles must be freezing! My ankles have toughened up through decades of northeast winters, but for those of you who can’t bear to bare them, a slim shaft bootie is the simple style solution.

I recently reviewed this coat here and want to reiterate that it’s an oversized, looser style and longer midi length on me. The rest of this outfit are old favorite basics, including a cozy mock neck sweater from Nordstrom and these flattering pants from Ann Taylor I got a while back (for evening, pair it with a black cami or fitted black top for a chic jumpsuit effect). I checked that the listed inseam and rise measurements in the link are still the same as the pair I have on, and the current version has a center seam down the legs for an elongating effect. I love that the length on these is shorter than most petite pants, and are actually cropped on me for wearing with lower shoes and flats as well!

Thank you! It’s one I’ve had from years from The Daily Edited, but it looks like they may have updated their bucket bag design.

Hi Jean, I’ve been trying to order petite fitting styles from Express with no luck since your reviews! We’re about the same measurements, I’m 5’1, 32C, 24.5″, 100-105lb. Not full in the bust, but my torso is wider (broader shoulders and chest, less volume in bust) so I always struggle to get the same look from what I see modeled on other petites.

I would love to get the high neck sweater tank you wore in the monochrome sweater midi skirt post but the reviews all say it runs really small, and the XXS looks perfect on you! I tried several XS tops in Express’ Body Contour line and they all made me feel like a sausage with extra skin, plus gaping armholes with a fit made for a taller woman. I couldn’t imagine the XXS being comfortable, but I hope your sweater knit is more friendly! Can you comment on the stretch, torso length, and armhole width (puckering if stretched wider?) so I know to order the XXS or XS?! Thank you so much!

Hi, I would agree with the reviews – it’s definitely a very snug fit! I’d recommend sizing up in the sweater tank!

I love your outfit. I would have substituted those boots for a low heel, casual style. Very nice .

    Hi Jean!

I absolutely LOVE this look!! I just bought a top almost exactly like this from Liverpool Los Angeles but it is a rayon blend and I like yours better and love that it has wool. I am warming up to the crop with booties look, on you it’s so elegant! Not sure I could pull it off… Quick question for you….are peplums classic or trendy? I have a few that always seem flattering on me but not sure if I should give up the style and bury it with the 80’s lol. Even adding a belt to a peplum can be so cool. Would love to see you pull off the look! Thanks so much for your post!!

Thank you April! I think a gently flared peplum can be classic while the more dramatic ones in my closet feel a little dated now. But, it doesn’t hurt to hang on to them as trends are cyclical every few years or so!
