Baby Gear Deals: $75 off Nuna Rava, Bugaboo Ant

I know a lot of you were interested in the Nuna Rava convertible car seat on sale (which we started using for Nori earlier this year), so wanted to mention it’s now fully stocked for $75 off both at Pottery Barn Kids (with 5 color choices & free ship) and at Nordstrom (1 color remaining)!

I know smaller framed guys struggle with fit too (and don’t have nearly as many options like petite women do!), so appreciate that they offer a wide sizing range with pant inseams from 26″ to 36″, and shirts in short, regular & long length. Nuna Rava Convertible Car Seat ($75 off; also at Nordstrom)

As a side note, I wanted to encourage you guys to make sure you’re happy with your car seat choice before opening up the box. I was told that once a car seat box is open, even if a retailer accepts the return, the car seat oftentimes has to be destroyed for safety purposes instead of resold or donated (because they cannot guarantee that it wasn’t used and damaged in an accident) which would unfortunately be very wasteful. 

Bugaboo Ant Compact Stroller (save $100 on 3 colors)

As a compact stroller we have and love the Babyzen Yoyo, but the newer Ant is also a popular and slightly less expensive alternative. Some differences from the Yoyo:

• Seat Reversibility: The Ant seat can be flipped to face you, while the Yoyo seat faces outwards only.
• Infant Use: The Ant can lay more flat thus can be used for infants younger than 6 months. The standard Yoyo seat is for 6 months+ unless you separately purchase the newborn pack, or use a converter for an infant car seat like we did. The Nuna Pipa or Pipa LX infant car seats are compatible with both strollers, using converters sold separately.
• Handlebar height: The Ant handlebar height is adjustable, which I know is a feature couples of varied heights like.

Similar to the Yoyo, the Ant is also supposed to fit inside most airplane overhead compartments, but honestly whenever we used our Yoyo on flights, we preferred to gate check it just to have one less item to tote onboard.

Nuna Triv Stroller (save $175 on the PBK color)

This mid-size one-seater stroller came out last Fall, and seems to be a good combination of functionality and compactness. It’s lighter and more compact than the Nuna Mixx Next (Triv is over 5lb lighter than Mixx due to the smaller frame & wheel size) or the UPPAbaby Cruz v2, with a unique folding ring car seat adapter. Note: Nuna strollers are only compatible with Nuna infant car seats.

Also, similar to the Nuna Mixx, the stroller can be folded whether the seat is facing forwards or backwards – a convenient feature that we didn’t even think to look for our first time stroller shopping. The Cruz folds only with the seat facing forward so it is an additional step we usually do before folding it.

It completely depends on your situation and lifestyle, but I know some parents still prefer to get a standard sized, non-compact stroller like the Mixx or Cruz/Vista for everyday use, since those feature a heavier stronger frame and larger wheels for various terrains and climates (this was esp. important for us living in Boston with months of snow & slush). The Triv seems like a good contender if you want just one stroller to bridge both everyday use and lightweight needs.

Nick has a fairly small wardrobe of pieces he tends to wear on a weekly basis – usually ones that are extremely comfortable, easy to clean & maintain with a toddler around, and with a trim fit. For fit reference, he’s about 5’9″ tall, 165 lbs.

Riviera Short Sleeve Shirt (end of season prints are on extra sale)

Cuts: Tailored (more fitted than Slim), Slim, Standard, Athletic
Lengths: Short, Regular, or Long

Over the years, Nick has picked up several of these shirts and always gets compliments on the prints, without fail. As someone who is fit-focused, I especially appreciate that these shirts come in tons of sizing, cut and length options for guys with all different body types. Nick gets size Medium in the Tailored cut and Regular length, but it’s always nice to have that Short option – women are def not the only ones that need petite-friendly sizing!

Some of the very fun summery “end of season” prints (like “putting on the Spritz”) are marked down on additional sale for a great value after the 30% off. Since we can’t really travel anywhere, Nick’s been rocking the colorful orange lemon stripes one (on sale) to Nori’s delight…she loves matching with daddy in her lemon prints!

Coast to Coaster Shorts  

I don’t think Nick has taken these off since he got them this summer. According to him, they are the perfect summer shorts (7-inch inseam hits about an inch above the knee on him). At full price these are on the pricier side for shorts, but more reasonable on sale given the quality and fabric. The material is very practical for summertime wear being lightweight, cool & fast drying (almost swim trunk like but with a slight textured feel). The tailored fit looks nice, and we love a good fun printed piece!

Tech Short Sleeve Shirt (final sale colors are extra $20 off)

Per Nick: T-shirt level comfort but with a more polished button down look. Wrinkle-resistant “tech fabric” is liquid wicking and stains cleans off easily (read: dad-friendly around small kids). Great for those days when you want to be comfortable at home but also have to occasionally re-emerge back into society. The material is stretchy so he gets a Small in this style, but a Medium could work too.

• Adidas Stan Smith Sneakers ($48, regularly $80) Pictured below. Great value for on-trend yet minimalist, good looking (synthetic) leather all-white sneakers. Runs big, size down half if unsure.
• Paige Transcend Jeans ($119.90, regularly $199). The Transcend line features super soft and comfortable denim fabric that’s comfy enough to sleep in…if you’ve tried the womens version before then you’ll know! As with most designer jeans, these come long and may need to get hemmed (free at Nordstrom stores if you’re a cardholder). Nick got the Slim Straight Cut in “Mark” size 31 and is very happy with them – color is a versatile medium dark grey in person. On him, the fit is slim but not skinny, not nearly as skinny as some of the reviews say.
• Cole Haan Waterproof Boot (50% off) Sharp looking dressier boot that is priced as low as Cole Haan’s Black Friday deal last year, which sold quickly. TTS.
• Sperry Gold Cup (save $60) These are the luxe, softer & cushier version of regular Sperrys. Gifted my dad these and he was thrilled. Sale color this year is classic and sale price is lower than past years. TTS.
• Marl Henley Top – a nice alternative to a basic tee, this 100% top is soft, thicker weight than expected and feels more substantial. Size small is a trim, not too slim fit on Nick.
• Patagonia Synchilla Fleece ($83, regularly $119) – super comfy fleece with just the right amount of “oversize.”
• Quay Hardwire 54mm Sunglasses ($42.90, regularly $65) Lightweight & comfortable polarized sunglasses that are easy for different face shapes to pull off. Price is very affordable compared to polarized Raybans. Both colors in this are pretty good on the face in person, but lens on tortoise is more opaque.
