Abercrombie had several new warm weather arrivals this month, and I was happy to see they went big putting pockets on almost every piece (super useful for me to keep my phone in while running around!). For those who are expecting, I also noticed many of these styles are bump-friendly. For the straps and necklines on these dresses, I always prefer to wear my Bristol 6 nippies rather than fidget with a strapless bra. To see each of these dresses in motion, check out my Instagram video!
A few other items I’m eying for future getaways:
- Gauzy coverup pants available in short, regular tall
- Crochet mini dress, as another cute coverup option
- Cropped top + maxi skirt to wear as a two piece, in a zesty yellow or floral print!
1. Puff Sleeve Midi Dress (3 colors)
Early bump friendly
This one is my favorite out of all the pieces in this try on! As a black midi dress it’s seemingly simple, but the cut and detailing feels chic and elevated. It’s a piece that I will wear either casually around the kids with flat sandals and a summer tote, or dress up with strappy sandals and a little wicker bag. While the name says “plunge neck” I didn’t find this to be daringly low, and I love the gathered style neckline.
This one is bump friendly through maybe mid second trimester, since it’s an empire style higher waistline with a gently flaring skirt. I tested the zipper on mine multiple times without issues, so I’m hoping the one review is a one-off case. The fit of xxs petite is snug on me at the torso after zipping up, but not enough for me to size up. There is also a slightly smocked back panel offering some stretch.
2. Ruffle Flutter Sleeve Maxi Dress (4 colors)
Bump friendly, nursing friendly
This is a romantic and very airy, floaty 100% cotton dress that is fully lined. It’s very bump-friendly due to the empire waistline and flowy skirt fabric – I would just size up for comfort if you’re looking to wear this with a bump. It’s double layered and slightly sheer, but I didn’t have see-through issues with a pair of skin toned underwear on. The fabric composition appears to differ for each of the colors in this dress, and it looks like the solid green color might be a little more opaque than the white and floral print.
They also have a mini dress version of this, shown on me below, which comes in 3 colors including an on trend lilac. For a similar midi dress option, check out their ruffle strap smocked dress.
3. Tie-Front Maxi Dress (3 colors)
Early bump friendly, nursing friendly
This grecian-inspired piece is also 100% cotton with a semi-sheer overlay skirt and half length lining skirt. It has a tie at the bust which you can wear either tied or tucked in like I did above for a cleaner look. This one has a very forgiving and flowy fit with an elasticized waistband, and I can see it being cool and comfortable in hot summer weather. I wrote “early bump friendly” since although the outer skirt is super flowy, the cotton half lining skirt doesn’t stretch and might not fit over bigger bumps.
These Schutz sandals will most definitely be a favorite again this year thanks to the low, practical block heel and the clear finish that goes with literally everything. I love that I can slide them on quickly and get a little boost from the heel and elongating effect from clear uppers! They’re currently available at Nordstrom, Amazon, Zappos & Bloomingdale’s.
4. Puff Sleeve Mini Dress (2 colors)
Bump friendly
I got this green dress last year and wore it quite a bit, both dressed down for daytime and out to dinner and drinks! It’s back in two new colors. I had sized up to an XS petite for more room and comfort, but it is a touch loose in the bust so this year I stuck to my usual size for the dresses above.
5. Puff Sleeve Skort (2 colors)
Super flattering piece with the same style bodice as Dress # 1, except with a fitted banded waistline and shorter flared skirt. I like the concept of the built-in under shorts, but it’s basically a romper so just FYI for bathroom trips. If you don’t want to deal with the built in shorts, you could simply cut or unstitch the undershorts at the crotch and just wear this as a regular dress.
For other pieces included in the sale, check out my review last month of their linen pants!
