I’ve loved reading your feedback on my recent styling a sweater over a dress reel, and have been feeling inspired to do more styling videos! Today’s post demonstrates a few simple tips I follow for elevating an everyday outfit. This pairing for example is composed mostly of affordable and accessible pieces, but makes me feel polished and put together. These tips can also easily be applied to what’s already in your closet!
See the “get ready with me” video below for a few small styling tips like how I tuck my sweater and scarf!

1. Go monochromatic with a mix of textures
Whenever I need a polished outfit in a pinch, I default to a monochromatic color palette but add texture like ribbing, cable knit, leather, etc so the look doesn’t fall flat. My go-to color schemes are all black, all white, or all beige since they’re the most foolproof, but try a vibrant monochromatic outfit like the ones spotted on Inauguration Day (or my teal outfit here) for a more striking look!
2. Balance relaxed cut pieces with slim ones
I’ve mentioned this often ever since I’ve been exploring more oversized silhouettes and midi lengths over recent years! Love the balance of an oversized coat or roomier, slouchy fit sweater like this one with slender bottoms. Or, wider cut jeans or a longer midi skirt with a fitted cropped top or bodysuit.
3. Top it with a long tailored coat
I’ve found that a tailored coat can elevate even the most casual of looks (try it over a jogger set with sneakers)! Even if you’re petite, don’t be afraid to experiment with longer lengths like a midi length coat – just make sure the shoulders and sleeve length fit to keep the look polished. For spring or fall, I usually swap in a long draping trench.
4. Invest in timeless accessories
I’m a firm believer that you don’t need to spend a lot to look elevated, but if you are looking to splurge on something special, a timeless handbag or pair of well-fitting boots can go a long way in “completing” basic outfits. The majority of my everyday looks pair affordable finds with a designer piece here & there that can help bump the outfit up another notch.
I got my first Chanel bag over 10 years ago, and hope to continue using it for a few more decades! Another category I tend to splurge on is Stuart Weitzman boots, since I have a tough time finding other brands that fit well around narrow ankles or calves. For designer shoes with the most longevity, black is usually a safe choice as it tends to be easier to repair and recolor.

Hi Jean!
This is a perfect look from head to toe.
I totally agree with your tips, especially having a monochromatic look will makes you look put together no matter what.
also, the timless accessories! I always like to invest in shoes and bags because they usually stay last for a long time.
