This outfit might be one of my favorites, featuring the timeless combo of camel and black via a chunky knit, sleek boots and some British-inspired plaid! If you’re not much of a heels person, I also love this casually with flat black loafers or chelsea boots, as shown below.
Plaid topCoat on sale
After visiting London last year, I became enamored by plaid topcoats and lucked out with this find from the British brand Topshop! See how else I’ve styled it here and here. Their 0P jackets fit me with no alterations needed, and they have a newer version in petite and regular that’s fully in stock and just got marked down in petites! Note these topcoats are medium weight (not for super cold days) and fit a little oversized. You can read reviews for the newer jacket at Nordstrom, however the petite sizing is only available at Topshop.com and small petite sizes always go quickly. If you’re hesitant about ordering from overseas, I’ve always gotten my orders promptly, and have received my refunds with no issues under their free returns.
Topshop also has a midi camel coat on sale in petite sizing – although the style is an intentionally long length coat, the proportions and sleeve lengths should be right for petite ladies.
Jeans that run small & short
On the topic of Topshop, I wanted to point out their petite denim again for ladies who have a hard time finding jeans that fit! Their Jamie jeans are extremely slimming & flattering in my opinion, and run 1-2 sizes small at the waist and very short if you get Petite sizing. I usually wear 24 in most denim brands, but size up to 25 or sometimes 26 in Topshop. You’ll know the sizing is petite when the second number says 28, i.e. size “25 x 28.”
Note each wash and color can run a little differently, even in the same size. I tried on this washed black pair (thicker and nice quality), and this distressed black pair (more stretchy with perfectly placed knee rips), but both styles in my usual 25 x 28 were a little too snug on me at the waist. Size 25 x 28 in these styles measured 11.5″ across the waist and a very cropped 23.5″ long inseam (hits above my ankles).
ordering from amazon fashion
I’ve also gotten a lot of questions about this sweater, and wanted to share a few additional notes! First and foremost (and this goes with everything on Amazon), after selecting your desired size or color, pay attention to whether it says “Prime eligible” and the estimated delivery date on the right hand side. I order the majority of my items under Prime which includes free 2-day shipping and free returns, but once Amazon’s warehouse runs out of a particular size or color, that item will become “not Prime eligible” and ship direct from the brand with no free returns. Oftentimes shipping from overseas could take weeks or even months! Amazon does restock popular items at their warehouse, so you can bookmark something and wait for it to be “Prime eligible” again.
I had been looking for a chic sweater with blouson sleeves but everything I tried overwhelmed my frame. A deeper search led me to this one by a random brand, and I gave it a try after reading negative reviews about it fitting small and short. Turns out the “one size” fits me perfectly like a xxs to xs petite, and the material is a comfortable medium weight rib knit. On the downside, there’s no fabric content and care tag inside! I just hand-washed it in cold water and laid it flat on a rack to dry. Also, I ordered two colors and the khaki one ran an inch shorter than the black (note the khaki is more orange-tan, as shown in the stock photo). These cons aside, I’m very happy with the fit and unique but understated look. This sweater was Prime Eligible when I posted, but unfortunately Amazon must’ve sold out, so please note the longer shipping dates now listed for each color!
