Last month while visiting family in CA, I was particularly excited to check out the Carlsbad flower fields as a break between our San Diego to LA drive! These fields are usually in bloom March through early May, so they’re gone already for 2019, but mark your calendars for next year if you’re in the area (p.s. the Carlsbad outlet mall including a Theory outlet is right around the corner)!
I wore my trusty block heel sandals (I never travel without these!) and this circle skirt from Uniqlo for a punch of color. The skirt comes in a few different variations (see below), all of which fit me perfectly at the waist, are lined, machine washable, and have generously sized pockets. Their XXS (online only) runs very small and fits 22 to 23″ waists, while XS fits 24 to 25″ waists. I do wish they’d offer petite lengths, as these are a longer midi and hit at my calves. I didn’t mind the length as much for this style since it lends a retro feel with the fitted waist and swingy circle silhouette.
1. Uniqlo seersucker circle skirt (3 colors)
(The skirt pictured in this post) Made with a slightly textured 100% cotton seersucker material. The white version has “no show” skin-toned pocket lining which is a detail that I appreciate!
2. Button front circle skirt (3 colors and in stripes)
This one fits just like the above skirt but with a lighter weight, smooth finish material and button-down detail down the front. The button placket is lined so you don’t have to worry about gapping.
3. Linen tuck flare skirt (4 colors)
This skirt has a partial pleated design and A line cut that is less full than the circle skirts. 50% cotton, 50% linen blend.
Also worth mentioning…
This pleated long skirt (how pretty is that light blue?) is an updated version of mine from last year that I’ve been living in this spring. The new one looks longer and is likely a maxi length on someone my height instead of midi.

By luck our visit to Carlsbad coincided with a Field to Vase dinner that night, hosted by American Grown flowers (with upcoming dinners at VA, OH, and other CA farms). They extended two press tickets to Nick and I while my brother Ed took Nori out for pizza, aka mostly Nori intently watching him eat pizza ; ) The family-style dinner was set up right amidst the 50 acres of ranunculus flower fields and it was an absolute DREAM at sunset. We then got to take home the gorgeous “field to vase” centerpieces as souvenirs, which totally brightened up my grandmother’s day the next morning!
