I don’t order often from Gap/Old Navy, since their online-only petites sections (Old Navy petites // Gap petites) only start at xs petite and sizes tend to sell out quickly! Both stores are having a big summer sale though, and you can combine items into 1 order with free shipping over $50 + free return shipping. Below are a few winners I picked up over the past few months, and don’t forget to check out their baby and toddler section for very affordable, cute basics!

1. Tank top maternity dress
Such a comfortable and easy basic to throw on in the hot weather. When I first tried this on in my early second trimester (pictured below), it felt loose around the under belly, and the shoulder straps were a little too long. I kept it though knowing I’d likely grow into the belly area, and sure enough it’s now in my regular rotation every week! Also, after a machine wash and dry, this dress shrunk a little bit overall which helped with the fit.
PS – I’ve been wearing my maternity shape shorts under everything for belly support and to help with lower back pain!
2. Gap maternity leggings (non maternity; TREAT for extra 10% off)
I tried on both Old Navy and Gap maternity leggings, and the Gap ones were the better quality keepers despite being a little pricier. These are nice and soft, with 7/8th being a great length on me. I personally prefer “full panel” maternity leggings like these which cover the belly, but I know others prefer below the belly (esp. in the summer), which they also make in a cute gray camo print and petite-friendly length!
See all Gap 7/8th length leggings here including non maternity and petites.
3. Ribbed midi-skirt ($13.50 after discounts in cart)
Not maternity but very stretchy, soft, and versatile! I took some photos of different styling ideas with this skirt across the seasons and will post soon, but wanted to mention this while all petite sizes are still stocked and on sale.
FYI, major sale alert on these classic cap toe slingbacks .. they’re currently $55 as part of BR’s shoe event down from $138! See my review in photos #5 and 6 in this blog post.
4. Softspun maternity & nursing dress (use PERK for extra 40% off)
I posted this two months ago when XS was still in stock, and hope some of you were able to snag it! I was very impressed by the feel & function of this piece, and hope they’ll come out with more colors and similar items. The fabric is extra cozy and soft, and I love the practical flip up nursing front flap that doesn’t scream “nursing clothes.”
I’ve bought several tops from Old Navy over the years because they fit my budget and their sizing runs small in my opinion. I’m 5’2″ and currently a 34B and I wear a Medium or Petite Medium there. I don’t want a snug/tight fit, so those who prefer figure-hugging could get Smalls. But Petite Mediums in their button down shirt fit my shoulders, bust, and arm length.
I really enjoyed your anti-racist post a few weeks back. I noticed you also posted on instagram about the history of Juneteenth, and was wondering if you had any additional commentary on your anti-racist work a few weeks into it? Would love to hear more content on that topic. As petite women, it can be hard to speak up and use our voices, as we’re often expected to be friendly, submissive and not challenge others. Would love to hear your thoughts and advice on how we can support each other in speaking out and supporting each other in our anti-racist work.
Hi Juliette, thanks so much for sharing this feedback. My next few posts were more focused on what we’re doing at home such as books and discussions with my kid(s) but I closely follow a few ladies on IG who share insightful resources and action items on a regular basis that I wanted to recommend:
– laurascottandco (doctor and mama of 4 in FL, originally BOston, who has always shared valuable resources on anti racism topics)
– juley le – new orleans based who has been very active in sharing resources on how the Asian community can support Black lives
– Hitha Palepu – one of my favorite follows in general for her very well researched reads and shares and action item suggestions on IG
Such a cute selection!
