Nothing feels quite as elegant to me as a fully monochromatic outfit with a sleek midi coat and elongating trousers! I partnered with Uniqlo on IG and wanted to blog a more detailed review on some pieces I tried. I’ve been a longtime customer of their Heattech thermal layers, and have also shared their custom length trousers before as an under $50 option with free hemming. They’ve added a few new pant colors since including gray, cream & olive – I saw a customer pic with this same outfit but grey trousers instead, and loved the combo!
Pullover Stripe Sweater
I didn’t grab a photo, but I tried this on in store and thought it’s one of their best pieces right now. The camel and navy stripe options are both classic, and it’s harder to find deeper shaded colors like those. The material is a medium weight (not thin) with a plushy yarn feel. They only had xs in store which was a loose relaxed fit on me, and I imagine the xxs would fit more like how it looks on the model.
Wide Fit Pleated Pants
These trousers come in an original inseam length of 28,” with optional hemming. For the pants shown in this post, I got them hemmed to a 27” inseam to wear with mid heels, but if wearing mostly with flats I’d do a 25.5” or 26” inseam.
Sizing: xxs is online only and in-store sizing starts in xs. My waist measures 25″ around and I generally fit in-between their XXS and XS for this particular style. The waist runs a little small compared to other brands like Ann Taylor or LOFT. Size XS I got measures 12.75″ across the waist, 18.5″ across the hips (with more room due to the pleats), 12″ rise and 28″ inseam before hemming.
Complimentary Alterations: For hemming, you either select the inseam while ordering online or buy in store and get it hemmed on site for same day pickup. If you buy online you can also bring it in store for alterations with a proof of purchase. Just FYI, altered items become final sale.
Double Face Long Coat
I’m wearing this coat in the color “natural” which is a beautiful cream shade in person. This is an oversized style and will be roomy on petites, unfortunately more oversized in fit than the camel one I bought last year and wore often. I think the fit is more ideal for someone 5’2” and up. If you’re able to, I would probably try one size down from your usual.
The wool blend fabric is medium weight (not winter weight) for a coat, in a straighter cut with a single button and no tie sash belt. I also want to note that this is a double faced wool coat style, which means it’s unlined.
Ribbed Mockneck Top
Very similar style to an old favorite mockneck rib tee I have and wear all the time. However, I do want to note that this year’s version runs bigger with longer sleeves. The xxs shoulders are a drop shoulder style on me and the sleeves are a few inches too long for me (folded under in the pics). I’m wearing the “light grey” color which is a light stone gray with a hint of taupe.
Uniqlo Staples from Years Past
- HEATTECH Scoop Neck Long Sleeve Shirt – love this with the bigger neckline to layer under tops without showing through.
- Shape wear shorts – A longtime staple of mine. Comfy, lightweight and not restricting.
- Toddler and kids fleece jackets. Both kids love their matching super cozy fleeces!
hi Jean -where are your silver drop earrings from?
They’re from Amazon, I also just added the link below the first photo!
Appreciate the honesty about the coat sizing. I know that you (and me!) have started liking looser fitting clothing as we have gotten older, but my first thought was that it was definitely too big.
