I wore this outfit recently for girls night and will be repeating it from head to toe for an upcoming birthday dinner! When going out in the city these days I’m often at a loss of what to wear, so it’s been key to have one or two go-to ensembles that I feel amazing in. I usually default to black, and this look felt on-trend and edgy but also elegant and age appropriate – loved it! You can also see this outfit in motion in my IG reel video.
Alice & Olivia Blazer Romper
I got a similar version of this blazer romper earlier this year and it has been that “IT piece” when I need an outfit that makes me feel incredible. This black one is cut very similarly and is beautifully tailored on a petite frame, with a slightly lower neckline. I have always found Alice & Olivia to run a little small with petite-friendly proportions – a size 0 in this fits me like a 00 in many other brands, and the only adjustment I made was folding the sleeves under. The romper bottom adds a little coverage and security when I sit or bend over a bit.
The cut of this blazer romper is tailored and slim fitting enough to wear by itself, but add a black belt like our Edited Pieces belt if you want to further cinch in the waist. Here I’m wearing the mini version of our signature belt!
Saint Laurent Solferino Bag
This little bag has been my most reached-for designer purse all year – see it styled casually here and here, and dressed up a bit here. I love the size and shape, and if you’re on the shorter side, the strap is long enough for me to wear crossbody which is a major bonus! For a first designer bag, I still stand by the classic Saint Laurent wallet on chain which is still one of my most loved styles for many years now.
Schutz Maryana Boots
Maryana (also at Nordstrom) vs. Maryana Sculpt (also at Nordstrom): Schutz makes some unexpected petite-friendly boots! Being very short at 5 feet tall, I usually try on knee-high boots expecting them to fit poorly, but this was so surprisingly flattering and sexy on.
I’ve been eyeing the original Maryana embossed leather boot since last Fall, but the look felt a touch western for me. I was happy to see an updated Maryana Sculpt come out which is more in line with my style! The original is made of embossed leather, and the Sculpt is made of suede or leather with a subtly “sculpted” heel shape.
I did try both and debated between the styles, because embossed leather in general is lower maintenance, easy to wipe clean, and the embossing should camouflage scratches. The Sculpt won out for me as it’s more versatile for my wardrobe, and the material felt a little more high end and looked more elevated than the embossed leather.
FIT: FYI these boots are pull on style and do not have a zipper. I’m between a 5 and 5.5 in most brands, and took a 5.5 in these as there is no zipper. With the smaller size, my foot got stuck in the ankle area the half a size up solved the issue. I have fairly narrow calves and also found these to be a close fit in that area with minimal stretch.
Post-pandemic I also thought I would never reach for heels this high again, but I have found this heel height to be more comfortable in a boot than in pumps for prolonged wear since my foot is securely nestled inside the boot!
Below is how the blazer piece looks with a flat shoe. Wanted to show this for a cocktail attire event for those who cannot or prefer not to wear heels.
