We recently visited Miami with the fam, and wanted to share what I wore and some kids travel / food allergy things that came in handy. We were there for several days of wedding events, and I loved getting to dress up for a change! Shoes are often the hardest to narrow down when I pack, and the ones that served me well were:

1. Airport Outfit

For the flights, this black dress with pockets was both comfy and practical. I layered my Everlane striped shirt over it and knotted it at the waist for the plane, and wore the shirt on repeat during the week with my Madewell shorts, and as an easy swim coverup.

I also brought my Modern Picnic bag on the plane as my purse, and use my magnetic hat clip to secure my hat when I wasn’t wearing it.

2. Night out look

This little black dress just went on sale in several colors! I wore this with my platform sandals that were surprisingly comfortable and lightweight for the entire night.

I adored my friend’s bridal event looks all weekend! For the rehearsal night, she chose a white and red dress to incorporate Chinese wedding tradition, which I thought was such a sweet idea. Since many of you asked on IG, her dress is Dolce & Gabbana with Reformation sandals.

3. Welcome dinner outfit

I wore this gorgeous navy eyelet. dress (also comes in white) with platforms for a dinner event, and again with flat sandals for a weekend outing with my mom and the kids.

On Nori: EDITED PIECES DRESS 4T, AMAZON HAT (for adults), JELLY SHOES
On my mom: Few Moda dress xs, J.Crew bag
4. Wedding Guest Look

I went with this Fame and Partners dress for the wedding and it was everything I wanted – sexy and forgiving (not fitted & restricting at the waist or belly = comfort all night long). I love this brand for special events and bridesmaid dresses, and also wore them for my maternity shoot in Positano!

If you order directly on their website in advance, you can customize the color, length, and select your height for almost any design. Shopbop had just a few of this dress left in green, and the “dandelion” color on the F&P website looks stunning. As with any strappy piece, I wore my adhesive B6 nippies.

5. Everyday Outfits

I’ve already raved about these Madewell shorts (just restocked!) – the style is looser cut in the legs, with a tailored front and comfy elastic back. Here’s how I wore mine for day to night:

Left: Shorts xxs, similar tank (have it & love it), sandals 5, earrings, bag (JEAN20 for 20% off)
Right: Shorts xxs, Kids top 14, Reformation sandals 5, $15 sunglasses

6. Kids Swim + Sun Protection Gear

For the kids, it was key for me to find protective sun hats with an adjustable inner-brim fit as well as chin straps. I’m done chasing after hats that blow into the street or ocean after a gust of wind! Rio’s hat is awesome – light, ventilated and easy to pack. Nori picked out this cute adjustable adult hat that I wore a few times, too.

We’ve been buying both these Native adjustable sandals and slip on shoes on repeat in bigger sizes as the kids grow, and they’ve all lasted well so far handed down from kid to kid. They’re both great land-to-water shoes, dry quickly and are super lightweight.

We stayed at the Mayfair Hotel, which was lush with plant life and had a nice pool that was never too crowded! But with the kiddos, we were much more comfortable after switching to an AirBnB for more room, a yard and kitchen – key for prepping allergy-friendly food for the kids.

Our AirBnB host recommended going to South Pointe Park for a less crowded beach, nice walking path, kids playground and splash pad. Just be sure to arrive early for parking! The playground was nicely shaded and had mini picnic tables to escape the heat. There was also a concession stand with friendly staff who let me inspect the packaging ingredients and were great about my food allergy requests!

Coral Way Playground was the kids’ favorite playground from the trip. Great for ages 2-8ish!

Travel with Food Allergies

The kids are allergic to dairy, nuts, and egg – we do a lot of sushi since it’s usually easy to modify and inspect for those ingredients. We enjoyed dining at Varsol Sushi Bar and takeout from Belly Fish – wish we had one of these in Boston! PS I never leave the house without my kids’ food scissors which are so much quicker with a cleaner cut than a knife!

Despite a severe dairy allergy, the kids lived out their ice cream dreams regularly at Salt and Straw, who were very accommodating with our allergy requests. One tip I read is you can just buy a pint of their dairy free ice cream to be extra sure of avoiding cross-contamination, otherwise you can ask them to use a fresh pair of gloves and scoop your order from a newly opened pint of non dairy ice cream.

For the trip home, I baked a package of frozen chicken nuggets and sweet potato fries from brands that we’re familiar with and packed it so we didn’t have to worry about finding safe food at the airport. A few of you also shared the tip to let the airline know in advance and while boarding of a nut allergy and ask that nuts not be served near you.

Hi! Between HA and Dot Australia swim for kids, which quality do you like better?

Both are good quality! The benefit of HA though is that my kids get to have matching prints, which at this age they are still loving.
